Smyly Dominant in WBC Start

Newly acquired Seattle Mariner Drew Smyly left an imprint on the WBC when he recorded 8k’s in 5 2/3 innings on 60 pitches, ending his outing against Team Venezuela with 6 straight strikeouts.

Although dominant on the mound Smyly made on crucial throwing error which lead to a 1-0 deficit as he left the game.

Team USA bats came alive late starting with a Jonathan Lucroy sac fly in the bottom of the seventh. Adam Jones, Team USA’s most clutch player thus far, punished a high fastball to start the bottom 8th, which set the tone for Eric Hosmer a few batters later to do the same. This time it was of the 2 run variety, giving the US a 4-2 lead which the would not relinquish.

This game gave everyone something to grin about, especially Mariner and Orioles fan as they hope the impressive starts from Smyly and clutch knocks by Jones are a sign of things to come.
