Trump not throwing 1st pitch

Citing a scheduling conflict President Donald Trump passed on the opportunity to throw out the first pitch of the Nationals home opener.

Since Howard Taft in 1910 ( see our page on the presidential fist pitch)  every president except Jimmy Carter has taken part of the tradition while sitting in office.

Although the President still has at least 3 more opening days to fulfil the tradition it is worth nothing that the D.C. area voted 90% for Secretary Hillary Clinton in November and the President might have been using the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as an excuse to avoid excessive boos and bad optics.

Trump is no stranger to the pressure of throwing out a first pitch as in 2006 he threw out the first pitch of a Red Sox game most recently, but might have missed a opportunity to connect with the average American as President by taking part in a longstanding tradition and enjoying Americas past time.  Sad. Bigly.
